With deep love and reverence, we celebrate the life and legacy of Martha Washington Roul, who departed this life peacefully on April 5, 2025.
Martha was born on June 19, 1941, in Lavaca County, Texas, to Rit Guster. After the early passing of her mother, Martha and her brother, Harris, were lovingly adopted by Eddie and Texana Morgan, who raised them with devotion in Lavaca County before relocating to Kendleton, Texas.
At an early age, Martha accepted Christ into her life and was baptized on July 19, 1959, under the pastoral care of Rev. A.L. Goins at Little Zion Baptist Church in Kendleton. Her faith would remain a guiding light throughout her journey.
Martha married Booker T. Washington Jr. on June 18, 1960, and together they raised three sons: Booker, Leslie, and Bruce. In 1964, the family moved to Wellington, Kansas, where they built a life grounded in love, faith, and perseverance. Though Martha and Booker later parted ways in 1981, their enduring friendship continued until Booker’s passing in 1992.
Later, Martha found companionship and joy in her marriage to Lambert Roul. They shared a quiet, fulfilling life in Wellington until Lambert’s unexpected passing in 2001.
Martha was a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. A tireless worker and a nurturing mother, she instilled the values of service, resilience, and unconditional love in her children. Even as she faced the trials of multiple sclerosis, Martha remained steadfast in spirit—never allowing her diagnosis to dim her radiant light.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rit Guster, Eddie and Texana Morgan; her brother, Harris Morgan; her first husband, Booker T. Washington Jr.; and her second husband, Lambert Roul.
Martha leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sons: Booker (Cheryl), Leslie, and Bruce (Lisa); a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; extended family; and countless friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness, wisdom, and faith.
Her legacy lives on in all who were blessed to know her.
